Questions, answered
What families ask us most.
Specific schedules, fees, and availability may vary by location.
Who can enroll in YMCA afterschool programs?
Programs serve eligible students in grades PK–8, depending on the location and program option. The school finder shows the grades served by each program. For school-based programs, students must attend the same school where the YMCA program is offered.
Where are YMCA afterschool programs offered?
Programs are offered at elementary, K–8, and middle schools, plus select municipal locations across Miami-Dade County. Use the school finder above for the current list, program type, grades served, and registration pathway.
What activities will my child participate in?
Every afternoon brings new opportunities to learn, create, move, and make friends. Depending on the location, your child may enjoy:
- Homework time with encouragement and academic support
- Fun indoor and outdoor games that keep children active
- Creative arts, crafts, and hands-on projects
- A healthy daily snack and time to recharge with friends
- Enrichment adventures such as music, drama, STEM, chess, Y-Fit, or Soccer for Success
Activities vary by location, so every program has its own special mix of fun.
What are the program hours?
Before-school care begins at 7:00 a.m. at select locations. Afterschool care generally runs from school dismissal until 6:00 p.m.; middle-school schedules may run until 6:30 p.m. Schedules vary by site and are confirmed during enrollment. Select sites may also offer all-day programming during teacher-planning days, school breaks, or summer.
How much does the program cost?
Fees depend on the school and program type. Select a location above to see its daily rates and exact monthly payment schedule. Most fee-based programs include a one-time $50 registration fee. Eligible grant-funded programs may be free or offered at a reduced rate. Bay Harbor and Miami Shores each display their own dedicated monthly payment schedule.
How do I register my child?
Find and select your location above, review its program details, and continue to the appropriate registration portal. Most locations use the YMCA's secure family portal through EZChildTrack. Municipal programs may use a separate city registration system. Every YMCA registration is initially waitlisted while space, eligibility, and required documents are reviewed.
Are snacks provided?
Yes. A healthy snack is provided each program day at no additional cost. Share food allergies and dietary restrictions during registration so the program team can plan appropriately.
What if my child has a special need?
Share your child's needs during registration. Our Inclusion Support Team will contact your family to complete an intake whether or not accommodations are requested. The intake helps the team understand your child's needs, determine any appropriate support, and confirm the program is the right fit.
Is financial assistance available?
Financial Assistance and third-party funding may be available for eligible fee-based programs. ELC vouchers are also accepted. Our Family Support Services team can help with questions.
Is student accident insurance required?
Yes, for M-DCPS locations. M-DCPS requires HSR Student Accident Insurance even when a child has other medical coverage. Choose Florida, Miami Dade County Public Schools, and coverage year 2026–2027. Basic at-school coverage is $13 for PK–6 and $14 for grades 7–8. Athletics coverage is not required for YMCA afterschool.
Purchase HSR student insurance, then provide proof through the registration process.
Why does my registration show as waitlisted?
Every registration is automatically placed on the waitlist while the YMCA reviews space, eligibility, and required documentation. A waitlist notice is not an acceptance. Your child is enrolled only after the YMCA sends an acceptance confirmation.
How do I cancel enrollment, and can I receive a refund?
A parent or legal guardian must submit the YMCA Change Request Form at least five business days before the next payment due date.
- No refunds or credits are issued for missed days or weeks.
- Medical exceptions may be considered with a doctor's note submitted within five business days.
- Approved refunds are processed within 30 days.
- Registration fees are nonrefundable.
- Program fees and registration fees do not apply to 21st CCLC programs.
